Mouse Taxidermy Workshop
Location: Crimson Curiosities (Oak Ridge, TN)
Instructor: Marie Lestrange
Investment: $95 per person (All materials provided)
Delve into the whimsical and macabre art of anthropomorphic taxidermy! In this beginner-friendly workshop, you will learn the foundational skills of small mammal preservation by creating a charmingly somber scene: a beautifully preserved mouse resting inside its own miniature wooden coffin.
What You'll Learn & Do:
Pelt & Form Prep: Work with a pre-fleshed specimen, learning how to properly prepare the skin and construct a custom wire and wrapped form to rebuild the mouse's internal structure.
Anatomical Sculpting: Master the delicate techniques used to position miniature glass eyes, sculpt tiny features, and place the specimen into a peaceful, natural-looking sleeping pose.
Gothic Staging: Learn how to tuck, pin, and groom the fur before final assembly. You'll then stage your finished mouse inside a small wooden coffin, creating a stunning, custom oddity display piece.
Absolutely no prior taxidermy experience is necessary! This class is designed to be a gentle, approachable, and respectful introduction to the craft. We provide all professional supplies—including the pre-fleshed mouse specimen, miniature glass eyes, tools, forms, and the wooden coffin display.
You will leave with a completed, one-of-a-kind piece of taxidermy ready to sit proudly on your bookshelf.
Spaces are limited! Due to the detailed preparation required for each specimen, pre-registration is mandatory. Secure your spot online or book in-store at Crimson Curiosities prior to the class.
